In Memory of Ruth McConnell The Tuscola County
Fair Board has dedicated the 2010 Tuscola County Fair
Premium Book to Ruth McConnell, who passed away earlier
this year. For over 40 years, Ruth worked as the
Tuscola County Fair Office Manager each summer. She
managed the fair office with efficiency and integrity.
Ruth was a tireless worker who possessed a compassion
for people. She had a deep belief in the 4-H program
and the county fair concept. Even after retiring, she
kept a close interest in the Tuscola County Fair. Her
ready smile and positive spirit will be greatly
missed, but the memories of her years of service will
give us the resolve to continue her work.

In Memory of Cal berry |
The Tuscola County Fairboard has dedicated the 127th Tuscola County Fair to Cal Berry, who passed away in the spring of 2008. In 1997, Cal joined the Fair Board and assumed the task of supervising the horse pulling contests. He was proud to take this on, as he had spent many years working with the late Walt Putnam. Cal's dedication to this contest and to the Tuscola County Fair is a lasting tribute to the man he was. Cal will be greatly missed. |

In Memory of Art Battel 1917-2006
Mr. Battel became hooked on fairs at a very early age. When he was 8 yrs. old., he became a member of the Cass City 4-H Livestock Club & exhibited his first Holstein heifer calf. That calf won a blue ribbon and became the nucleus of his Holstein herd. He also exhibited swine and became Swine Superintendent. He enjoyed the Harness Racing, Horse-pulling contests & everything that was connected with the fair. His children & grandchildren were active in 4-H & he promoted their activities. Due to declining health, he could not attend the fair, but always wanted to know, "Who had Grand Champion?". Art's fair experience could be summed up in this way: "It was a wonderful place to meet old friends & to make new ones."
